Appalachian Trail Thru-hike Day 16: April 7, 2017, Wayah Shelter to Wesser Bald Shelter

Although today started out a little chilly by having to use the privy that was covered in snow, the rest of the day was incredible.

I got to walk through the most beautiful powdered snow all day.

It looked like something that would be on a Christmas card. It seemed like I stopped every five minutes to fully take it all in and to take a mental as well as a physical picture on my phone.

I thought I’d had experienced the perfect day so far, and if it had ended then, I would have still said it was, but I was in for a real treat. On top of Wesser Bald, there is an observation tower. The views on top are indescribable, 360 degrees of unobstructed views of the mountains I had just come across and the ones I had yet to explore. While I was there by myself, I didn’t feel alone. I had seen this place on countless other thru-hikers journeys, and now it was my time to see it too. If the battery had not been running low on my phone, I think I would still be out there taking pictures and would have never made it to the shelter that night.

I’m 131.1 miles into my Appalachian trail journey, and today was absolutely my best day on the trail so far.
