Appalachian Trail Thru-hike Day 8 March 30, 2017, Unicoi Gap to Trey Mountain shelter

It’s supposed to rain hard today, so we are just going to hike around 9 miles to Trey Mountain shelter. We wanted to get there before it started raining, but it was going to be about a 6000 ft elevation change to get there. The climb was tough, but we got to camp early in the day and set up quickly. Of course, since we got there early, the rain held off until late that night.

We started a fire and had a great time together. I can’t believe this is my new job for the next six months.

I’m now 58.3 miles into the AT. This was my best day on the trail so far.
